5.29.08

Steve had three hours at the gym this morning--which probably explains why he fell asleep at 5 PM and slept until 8 PM. April's voice on the phone was the thing to finally wake him. I tried to wake him by stroking his brow and talking, but nothing. April on the line, pow, eyes open. Good to know.

Steve-o is a lot thinner than when I last saw him. He has been practicing his swallowing exercises and next week they are going to test his swallowing. We pray the test goes well, which could indicate the possibility of him regaining his ability to talk and eat.

Last night he woke in the middle of the night to ten people around his bed--a mucus plug had blocked his airway and set off the alarm. The same thing happen a few days earlier when MaryAnn was alone with him in the room. She had to take off his ventilator tube and manually give him air (a process called bagging).

A few of the Atlanta Falcons came in to sign autographs for Steve. And his buddy Lex came by to visit, but unfortunately it was after Steve was already asleep.

Steve seems so much more comfortable than he has been. And actually since he's up now, I'm going to stop pecking at this keyboard and go be with him.
